Episode 0004: The Revolution will be Subtweeted (Jemayne Lavar King -- TEDx Charlotte)

On 13 October 2017, Jemayne Lavar King (University College) presented "The Revolution will be Subtweeted" at the TEDx Charlotte event. His description of his talk, as seen on the YouTube site that hosts this video, is as follows:

My talk addresses the fact the Academy can not continue to exist in its current state. New school scholars require new school engagement. Traditionalists should consider the desires of the 21st century scholar regarding curriculum development. Jemayne Lavar King, a native of Franklin, Virginia is a member of Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, and Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society. Jemayne’s first poem Richard Morgan Flier was published in 2002, followed by books Sole Food: Digestible Sneaker Culture, Life Within the Dorm: and Other College Related Poems, Managing Relationships: Bridging the Communication Divide, and 20 First Dates: The Poetic Mixtape. Jemayne is the creator of the world’s first collegiate English course dedicated to identification within Sneaker Culture.

Professor King holds a Bachelor of Arts in English/News Media from Elizabeth City State University, and a Master of Arts in English/Literature from Virginia State University. He is currently a candidate for a PhD in Literary Criticism at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In 2014, King became an ambassador for the American Heart Association, when he won the organization’s Lifestyle Change Award. A member of the United States Press Association and the National Association of Black Journalists, Jemayne serves as Producer/Co-Host of The Gentleman and The Jerk Podcast via the A Plus Entertainment Group. Jemayne resides in Charlotte, North Carolina where he serves as Title III Activities Co-Director and lectures as an English/Communications Arts professor at Johnson C. Smith University. Editorial Note: ENG 296: Sole Food: Digestible Sneaker Food Culture has been given a new home in JCSU's Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, where it is listed as IDS 296: Sole Food: Digestible Sneaker Food Culture. This move recognizes that King draws upon multiple disciplines in his course and that it is more appropriate to list the course there rather than in English. The content of the course has not changed.
