Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU) has been awarded a grant by the US Embassy in Beijing, China, to establish the Guangdong Baiyun University (GBU) Center for American Culture and Race (CACR) on the campus of GBU in Guangzhou, China. Because the American experience cannot be understood without engaging issues of race and ethnicity, especially those of African-Americans, this uniquely focused Center will set the African American experience within historical and contemporary contexts through books, multimodal digital documents, streamed media, and faculty and student exchanges. Central to this will be the Archways podcast, which takes its names from the arches that mark the entrances at JCSU and GBU.
